Cake = Epic Fail

So this past week was really hectic. One of Travis’ co-workers heard that I made cakes and requested that I make a Hello Kitty cake for his daughters 6th birthday. Then my girlfriend Cassie decided that we ought to go out to eat for our husbands birthdays (they are both named Travis and their birthdays are one day apart), she also requested that I make a cake for that outing. Next, another friend asked if I could make a 40th birthday cake for one of her friends. All of these cakes needed to be done by Friday. I don’t know what got over me but I said yes to all three…
This lead to an epic fail with the 40th birthday cake… At least I think so. This cake was two layers of chocolate on the bottom and the top (the 40) was yellow cake. I covered the whole thing in fondant, I'd tried a new recipe for that and it was a failure too, and then I wrapped a ribbon around the layers and piped icing on the top.
The Hello Kitty cake came out fine, it was all yellow cake with fondant icing. The cake for the boys was lovely! I made two ten inch round chocolate cakes, mashed up mint oreos and spread them in the center, then covered it in vanilla icing. I piped roses all over it. LOVELY!

This week I have one more order for a cake for a 10 year old. After this one, I’m going into cake bakers retirement!

Sleepless in Kafertal...

Clark slept like crap last night. That means I slept like crap! Poop!

I will have to try and sneak in a run at some point today, that will mean taking the baby to the gym or going after Trav gets home from work. Either way, I am determined to get in 2 miles! Yesterdays run was a slow 2 miler that ended up taking 23:27 to finish and I won't start adding mileage until I've got my miles down to 11 minutes each, so the race is on to get that number down to 22...

More updates to come...

I've been away...

I don’t have much more of an excuse as to why I’ve not written other than that. Life has been hectic and so I’ve been absent on the blog. I had to go to Virginia to pick up my Dad’s dog Gizmo and bring him back to Germany with us. Traveling with a ten week old baby is not fun. Travis couldn’t go with us this time so it was just Clark and me. Boy oh boy did he put me through the wringer on the transatlantic flights. I can’t really complain because it could have been much much worse, he could have been mobile or have had colic. All in all, he was pretty good. The only mishap we had was on the flight to Philly from Frankfurt, he got cranky at the end and there was too much turbulence for me to walk him around. Boy howdy was he pissed. Then when we got to Philly we only had one hour to get through customs, back through security, and to our next flight. Needless to say, we didn’t make it. Clark screamed the entire way through the airport because he was hungry and once we got to the gate I had to wait in line to get another connecting flight. So because I couldn’t take the time to feed him, he screamed and screamed. I almost took a lady’s head right off of her shoulders because she reached out to try and touch him. As I’m waiting in line I hear, “Its okay,” and as I look over at Clark there is a hand reaching towards his face. “Please don’t touch my son.” I say. And this stupid woman says, “I was just going to…” as she continues to reach towards his face. I lost it! “DON’T TOUCH MY CHILD!” I yell at her. Had I not been holding him, I am quite sure that I would have pushed her away… I’d of gone to jail.

So now I am trying to get back to a schedule, a new way of life really. This morning I went to the gym and ran, tomorrow I will repeat. Travis and I are trying to get Clark on a schedule too, we are turning to the “Baby Wise” method of feeding and sleeping. Clark will continue to sleep in our bed until this weekend and then I will attempt to get him to sleep in his own bed. I look forward to having my bed back but at the same time it makes me sad to think that he won’ t be there to snuggle. Hmph…

Hope to write again soon…
