1/2 Year Birthday!

Okay so I am roughly a month late with this post...

Clark had his 1/2 year birthday last month and I made him one half of a cake:

Of course I only allowed him to have a very small taste of the icing and I don't think he liked it very much.

I cannot believe that my little boy is getting so old. The time has really flown by. I wish that I could slow it down some, I don't want to miss these times and I know that they will be over in the blink of an eye. Luckily we have the video camera and can relive them over again later (I'm thinking at his bachelor party...)

Cakes

I totally forgot to post about the past two cakes that I made...

The first one was for a baby shower and the second for a birthday party.

The baby shower theme was mustaches so this is what I made:

The birthday party theme was Pokemon and they asked for a Pokemon Ball. I have to admit, I had to google that one. I had no idea what they were looking for. I also went slack ass on that cake. I didn't go all out like I usually do. I mean really, it was a last minute request for a 12 year olds birthday and I had ZERO desire to stress out about it. Seriously!!! I mean I put so little effort into this cake that I didn't even take a photo of the damn thing once I finished it. This photo came from the birthday boy's mom. HA! I will have to see if Travis still has the photo he took on his cell phone.

Full Schedule...

We’ve got a busy weekend ahead!

Today I am baking a cake for my friends baby shower that is being thrown tomorrow at 230, her theme is Mustache, I’ll be making a large handlebar mustache cake for the shower. Pictures to follow as soon as the cake is complete.

I am cleaning my house that has been neglected due to family visits and shopping trips. Yesterday my friend Nancy and I went on a road trip to Kaefers, the crystal store. The store is about an hour and a half away from here but the trip was well worth it! I got a set of crystal champagne glasses for under 17 euro, they were originally 17 euro per glass. HELLO!!! I also found out that they are having a super sale in July on all things Christmas. I don’t know if you know my little secret or not… I’m a Christmas addict. I love it! I have three Christmas trees. I haven’t actually put all of them up at once yet but this year is the year baby!

And then… we are going to pick up our race packets for the Mannheim ½ marathon that is tomorrow night. I have managed to really get into my head about this race, I don’t know why all of the negative self-talk is creeping in but I’m really hoping that by going to the race expo tonight I will get excited about the race instead of dreading it. I don’t know why I am so worried about this race, I’m trained up for it (though I could have taken my training more seriously and plan on picking up the pace over the next few weeks). I really think that it has to do with carrying a little extra weight, worrying about how Clark is going to be while he is with the sitter, and the ever present fear of there not being a porta potty when I need one…

So tomorrow we’ve got to go to the baby shower, come home and change into our running gear and then head downtown to log some more miles. Sunday I am making three pots of chicken stock, which will supply us with roughly 21 quarts of stock (this is enough to get us through the next few months) and relaxing around the house with Travis and Clark.

Have a great weekend!

Cake = Epic Fail

So this past week was really hectic. One of Travis’ co-workers heard that I made cakes and requested that I make a Hello Kitty cake for his daughters 6th birthday. Then my girlfriend Cassie decided that we ought to go out to eat for our husbands birthdays (they are both named Travis and their birthdays are one day apart), she also requested that I make a cake for that outing. Next, another friend asked if I could make a 40th birthday cake for one of her friends. All of these cakes needed to be done by Friday. I don’t know what got over me but I said yes to all three…
This lead to an epic fail with the 40th birthday cake… At least I think so. This cake was two layers of chocolate on the bottom and the top (the 40) was yellow cake. I covered the whole thing in fondant, I'd tried a new recipe for that and it was a failure too, and then I wrapped a ribbon around the layers and piped icing on the top.
The Hello Kitty cake came out fine, it was all yellow cake with fondant icing. The cake for the boys was lovely! I made two ten inch round chocolate cakes, mashed up mint oreos and spread them in the center, then covered it in vanilla icing. I piped roses all over it. LOVELY!

This week I have one more order for a cake for a 10 year old. After this one, I’m going into cake bakers retirement!
